The AIC Sports Medicine Team provides services including injury risk reduction, recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation of injury, emergency response and care, and education for student-athletes. While working alongside other health care professionals such as the AIC Team Physician and Dexter Health Services and Counseling Center, the Sports Medicine and Performance team goal is to provide compassionate, professional, and high-quality care to benefit the student-athlete during their career at AIC and beyond. Our Sports Medicine and Performance team utilizes evidence-based practice in the care of our student-athletes. Using technology and other services that can help us reach our goals, our staff remains diligent in obtaining education that can promote the use of new techniques, skills, and drive positive results for our student-athletes.

The services provided to our student-athletes begin before participation in intercollegiate athletics at AIC. Student-athletes are assessed for any health issues that may arise during participation in athletics during their pre-participation screenings and review of medical eligibility. Sports health screenings and other baseline evaluations are conducted to recognize and treat any current physical limitations that may impact future participation in intercollegiate athletics. With this data, our Sports Medicine and Performance team can ensure a safe, competitive environment.

When injury or illness occurs, our certified athletic trainers are most often the student-athlete’s first point of contact. Our certified athletic trainers will work with the student-athlete to determine an appropriate plan of care, including referral, when necessary, to safely return the student-athlete back to sport.

NOTICE:  While the COVID pandemic continues and based on Massachusetts regulations, anyone entering the Athletic Training Clinic must use an appropriately fitted facemask.  Athletic Trainers are required to wear a facemask while indoors and caring for athletes.
