Haker, McGrath, Vermette garner NE10 Academic All-Conference

MANSFIELD, Massachusetts - The Northeast-10 Conference unveiled its Spring 2024 Academic All-Conference selections on Thursday, June 27. Three American International College student-athletes were selected: Jackson Haker of baseball, Destiny McGrath of softball, and Kendyl Vermette of women's track and field.

To be eligible, student-athletes must start in at least half or play in at least two-thirds of their team's contests, and hold a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30. A group of administrators from around the conference then vote on the nominees.

Each of the three winners is no stranger to success on the field and in the classroom; all earned All-Conference selections and were additionally named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees this season.

Haker earned his second consecutive selection after winning the accolade in 2022; this season, he was named Second-Team All-Conference while leading AIC in almost every offensive category, including batting average at .358 and on-base percentage at .462. His honor makes him the fourth Yellow Jacket baseball student-athlete to win the award twice, joining Kyle McNiff (2011-12), Chris Starcun (2016-17), and Matt Costanza (2018, 2021).

McGrath gathered her first pick for this award as part of a fantastic junior campaign where she hit .307 and led AIC with 35 hits and 22 runs scored, taking Third-Team All-Conference at shortstop. Her selection gives the softball program an Academic All-Conference winner for the fourth consecutive year, as she joins former and current teammates Jalia Santos (2021), Abigail Wells (2022), and Brianna Harzula (2023) in earning the award.

Vermette took her third Academic All-Conference honor, including her first in Outdoor Track and Field and second of the academic year, having also won in 2022 and 2023 for her cross country performance. She was the NE10 Champion with an East Region-best time of 38:09.37 in the 10,000-meter run. She is the ninth Yellow Jacket to win at least three awards for cross country and track and field.
