HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a scoreless six outs, the Yellow Jackets started to string hits together. Sophomore Alejandro Mosquera led the inning off with a single and rookie Austin Bequeath drew a walk. After an out, junior Chad Lavelle knocked the cover off the ball with a triple to centerfield and plated Mosquera and Bequeath.
  • In the top of the third junior Michael Cruz led off with a double before senior Brandon Gaul laid down a beautiful bunt to move Cruz over to third. Senior Dalton Quinn lifted on to center which was caught and allowed Cruz to start.
  • The Fighting Knights added a run in the fourth to make it a 3-1 game.
  • Cruz drew a one out walk to start the fifth inning. Gaul drove him with a triple to left. Ultimately the Yellow Jackets left Gaul stranded but led 4-1 after five.
  • The Fighting Knights tied the game in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three runs on four hits.
  • AIC answered with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded Quinn sent a shot to center field and doubled on the play as senior Angel Mendez and Lavelle scored to take the 6-4 lead.
  • In the top of the ninth Quinn dug into the box with runners on second and third when he hit a flyball to right which allowed Mendez to tag from third and add an insurance run.
  • With two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth Daniel Alfonzo traded places with his teammate to bring their deficit to two. The next batter walked but senior Joe Oliver was able to record the final out on a flyball to left field.
