BOCA RATON, Florida – The American International College baseball team defeated Northeast-10 opponent Stonehill College on Monday, March 7 in non-conference action by a score of 7-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the top of the second junior Alejandro Mosquera, sophomore Cameron Fitzgerlad, and graduate Anthony Clark all drew walks to start the inning. Junior Chad Lavelle hit a fly ball to center that was caught and Mosquera tagged as AIC took the 1-0 lead.
  • AIC added another run in the top of the third. Senior Angel Mendez walked and then stole second all with no outs. After a flyout, senior Dalton Quinn found some grass and Mendez touched home plate.
  • The Skyhawks tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. They added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth as they took the 4-2 lead on a home run.
  • The Yellow Jackets started chipping away in the top of the sixth. Mosquera led the frame off with a double. After a single by Clark, Lavelle singled and Mosquera scored from third.
  • AIC went off for four runs in the seventh. Freshman Kiernan Caffery was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After an out and a walk to Mosquera, who junior Eli Vaquez pinch ran for, Fitzgerald singled and Caffery came around to score. Vaquez scored from third on a single by Lavelle. Clark and Lavelle scored on a single by Darion Crawford.
  • Stonehill added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-6.
  • Graduate James Flahive came back out for his third inning of work in the bottom of the ninth. After allowing a lead-off double he forced the Skyhawks into a flyout and a double play to secure the game.
