Bats come alive as baseball hangs 10 on Lynn

BOCA RATON, Florida - The bats were as hot as the Florida sun for the American International College baseball team, which used a five-run frame to overpower Lynn University 10-4 on Wednesday, March 15.

AIC elevated its record to 5-5 with the victory.

Kiernan Caffrey started AIC's offense rolling with an RBI single following a pair of walks in the first. Lynn bounced back with runs in the second and third, but AIC took over from there.

In the fourth, Chad Lavelle opened the frame with a base hit to center. He then moved up two bases on wild pitches, allowing Tyler Ziemak to score him on a hit of his own. The Yellow Jackets then loaded the bases with a Shea Cuccinotta hit and Ryan Lavelle reaching on an error, and the Fighting Knights made a second mistake as an errant throw allowed two runs to come in and put men at second and third for AIC. Josh Frometa promptly delivered those men home with a two-run single, giving AIC a 6-2 lead.

Both teams scred in the seventh; Caffrey drove in Jackson Haker with a single after the former doubled into the right field gap, but the Fighting Knights closed the gap with a two-run two-out rally. However, AIC put the game awayy with a Ryan Lavelle RBI single in the eighth and a two-run Ziemak double in the ninth for the 10-4 final.

Daniel Provost was the winning pitcher, tossing two shutout innings and scattering two hits in relief; Anderson Cuello Batista and Hayden Mutz combined for a flawless last two frames, striking out three between them.

AIC's remaining games in Florida feature regional opposition; the Yellow Jackets next face off with the Owls of Southern Connecticut State on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. before rematching with Caldwell University the following day and closing the trip on the 18th with another battle against SCSU.
