Football falls to Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - The American International College football team played under the lights on Friday, October 1 at Southern Connecticut State University. The Yellow Jackets scored first, but the home team took the game 23-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Owls had the first drive of the game. On 2nd-and-10 from the AIC 45, junior defensive linesman Trevor Catlin sacked Joe Bernard for a loss of 12 yards which eventually forced the home team to punt. Redshirt sophomore Xavier Torres fielded the punt at the AIC 32 and returned it 30 yards to the Southern Connecticut 38. AIC attempted a 39-yard field goal but missed to leave the game scoreless after two drives.
  • AIC started with the ball on the Southern Connecticut 42. Senior running back Samad Davila rushed to the right side for a 14-yard gain and a first down. On the next play redshirt junior quarterback Jayson Demild found rookie receiver Jaheim McGuire for a 27-yard completion that ended in a touchdown.
  • Southern scored with 12:11 on the clock in the second quarter to tie the game up at seven. With 5:27 remaining in the first half the Owls kicked a 32-yard field goal to give them the 10-7 lead.
  • The Owls went on to score a touchdown in the third and the fourth but only made one point after.
