Football comes up short at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - The Saint Anselm College Hawks used an early lead to hang on for a win over the American International College football team on Saturday, September 16.

AIC is now 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Saint Anselm drove the field to open the game, going 75 yards in 11 plays for the game's first touchdown.

In the second, Marcus Thomas forced a Hawks fumble that was recovered by Tyson Thornton to end a Saint Anselm drive, but the Yellow Jackets themselves lost the ball on the very next play, giving Saint Anselm the ball back deep in AIC territory and setting up a touchdown three plays later. The Hawks then blocked an AIC punt late in the quarter, recovering it in the end zone for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

In the third, AIC found the scoreboard in a big way; Cephas Williams hit Jaheim McGuire for a 53-yard touchdown pass to bust the shutout on AIC's first drive of the half. Two drives later, the Hawks countered with a field goal.

The final frame began with back-to-back catches by Devin Arthur, the first for 29 yards to put AIC in the red zone and the latter for a touchdown, shrinking the deficit to 24-14; however, AIC did not get any closer.

The Yellow Jackets return home to Abdow Field for Homecoming on Saturday, September 23 to host Pace University at 4:00 p.m.
