Pace takes win over Football

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – A chilly, wet fall afternoon at Abdow Field was the backdrop for a Northeast-10 Conference contest between American International College football and Pace University. The Yellow Jackets lost 24-14 in a ground and pound matchup. 

AIC falls to 1-3 this season with an 0-2 NE10 mark.

Pace controlled the trenches and time of possession to great success all game, with 237 rushing yards on 59 total carries compared to AIC's 69 rushing yards on only 23 carries as a team; as a result, the Setters possessed the ball for 38:24 of play.

The Setters' rushing attack was speared by Nasir Robinson, who led the way with 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Pace also had great complementary production from Brandon Sobotker and Zyaire Goffney-Fleming, who rushed for 69 and 52 yards, respectively.

AIC stayed in the game with the combination of a strong effort from the defensive front with a total of nine tackles for loss to get timely and important stops, with Benjamin Lazo leading the way with a pair.

AIC's passing game was sporadic, but had several deep downfield plays that led to its two touchdown drives, with receivers Fatir Bell and Jaheim McGuire each making receptions of 30-plus yards. On the ground, Sidiki Kone and Marcus Thurston were responsible for the two AIC touchdowns, which both were punched in from a yard out.

Pace's defense was key in the result, forcing three AIC turnovers with a fumble recovery by Andrew Albertelli and interceptions by Jaden Farrow and Jalen Johnson.

The Yellow Jackets next game is at home again on Friday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. against the University of New Haven.
