Football battles hard at No. 23 Assumption

WORCESTER, Massachusetts - The American International College football team fell 38-14 to No. 23 Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, October 7.

AIC is now 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the NE10.

Assumption's first drive was strong, going 72 yards in 10 plays to score, with Gavin Johnson catching an eight-yard touchdown pass at the 6:49 mark. The Greyhounds tacked on a field goal late for a 10-0 lead after one.

In the second, AIC drove downfield to inside the red zone. However, a field goal attempt missed, and the Greyhounds' Shakeer McPherson returned it 86 yards for a touchdown.

AIC responded on the next drive in a big way. Lukas Kasko hit Fatir Bell for a 41-yard touchdown pass to break the shutout. AIC trailed 17-7 at the half. 

In the third, Assumption took advantage of field position, taking control on AIC's 16 and scoring immediately on a run play; on their next drive, Gavin Johnson caught a 35-yard touchdown pass, going up 31-7.

The Yellow Jackets bounced back to go 75 yards to score on just three plays, capping it with a 21-yard catch by Omari Hutchison in the end zone. However, the Greyhounds punched in one more before the quarter expired, ultimately capping the scoring at 38-14.

AIC returns to play on Saturday, October 14 at Southern Connecticut State University.
