Football shows up big in Senior Day win over Post

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The American International College football team showed out for Senior Day as the Yellow Jackets dominated on the ground and through the air for a 41-17 win over Post University on Saturday, November 4.

The win improved the Yellow Jackets' record on the season to 3-7, with a 2-3 mark at home.

Both offenses drove down the field and scored touchdowns on their opening drives of the game with Post's score coming through the air for 21 yards to Joshua Tracey, and AIC's score coming on a goal line plunge from Sidiki Kone in response.

The second quarter scoring started when Yellow Jackets tight end Anthony DeSalvo slipped open for a reception on the goal line to give AIC a lead it would hold onto and build upon. The Eagles finished their next drive with a 35-yard field goal from Aden Caine, but AIC had a lightning-quick response as Kone took the second play of the drive for a 65-yard touchdown run down the left sideline; this score would be the final of the half with AIC leading 20-10.

The only scoring of the 3rd quarter was another goal line drive from Kone to give him his third touchdown of the game and seventh of the season.

The fourth quarter opened with a huge catch and run touchdown for 58 yards from Dahvey Hicks with a two-point conversion being scored via the "Philly Special," a double-reverse option pass with the Yellow Jackets QB Lukas Kasko converting the catch from Fatir Bell, who took the ball from Kone.

Post's Tracey snagged his second receiving touchdown of the game on the following drive to make the score 34-17.

The rest of the fourth quarter was grinded out by the Yellow Jackets running back Seba Nekhet, as he finished the game with 28 carries for 154 yards and AIC's final touchdown of the game that he scored to ice the game at 41-17 with a minute left.

It was an all-around dominant performance for AIC as they finished the game with 191 yards and two touchdowns through the air and a combined 297 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground to go along with no turnovers; Kone averaged 8.9 yards per carry on his 16 rushes for 143 yards.

AIC closes the 2023 season on Saturday, November 11 with a Northeast-10 Conference battle against Franklin Pierce University.
