Field Hockey claims win over Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vermont – The American International College field hockey team converted three penalty corner opportunities to knock off Saint Michael's College in a nonconference field hockey matchup on Wednesday, September 6.

AIC is now 2-1 on the season.

AIC's first tally came early on as Mayra Bok fired a hard drive from the top of the circle on a corner. Na'Bree Wallace deflected it to the left of Courtney Watt, and into the cage at 4:27 for her first of the season.

The Purple Knights answered late in the period. A penalty corner with under 15 seconds left set up three opportunities for the hosts, and though Morgan Cathcart's chance was saved by Rylee Constant, Allie Medeiros knocked in the rebound with a second left in the quarter to tie the contest.

Both teams generated chances in the second and third, but Taylor Wildes matched Watt stop-for-stop through the next half hour of play.

In the fourth, the Yellow Jackets broke through again. This time, Bok was the finisher, firing in her second of the season at 0:54 of the quarter after taking a right-to-left pass from Dominique Bassallo.

Bok nearly made it a pair shortly after on another corner, and though her bid was blocked, Brooke Szafran was there to win the rebound and sink her first of the season at 51:11, putting the game away for the Yellow Jackets.

Wildes earned the win to improve to 2-1, with three total stops in the contest.

The team opens a three-game homestand beginning Tuesday, September 12 against Franklin Pierce University.
