Field Hockey uses offensive eruption to down Owls

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - In a game that was not as close as the score ultimately indicated, the American International College field hockey team took a 5-3 Northeast-10 Conference win over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, September 16.

AIC is now 4-1 on the year with a 1-0 NE10 mark.

Both teams tallied in the first quarter, with Mia Wood striking for her second of the season on a pass from Fenna Voll, but Tori Geaglone countered just before the quarter break to tie the game 1-1.

AIC dominated the middle stanzas. Voll netted her second of the year, finishing a pass from Mar Busqueta in the second period, and then set up Wood for another less than three minutes into the third. Abby Clark then landed her third tally of the year at 6:32 of the third as the Yellow Jackets outshot the Owls 11-1 across the 30 minutes of play.

In the final frame, Mayra Bok put the game away with her third of the year on a feed from Dominique Bassallo at 4:44 for a 5-1 lead. That rendered the pair of late goals by Meghan Tillona moot and ensured the AIC win.

Taylor Wildes made five saves in the win to improve to 4-1 overall.

AIC next hosts Saint Michael's College under the lights on Wednesday, September 20 at 6:00 p.m.
