Washington drops 15 in men's basketball win over Dolphins

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The American International College men's basketball team played its first home game of the season on November 17 as the Yellow Jackets hosted the College of Staten Island. They knocked off the Dolphins 80-46.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Not even 30 seconds in, rookie guard Donovan Miller hit a three to get the game rolling. Two minutes later, junior guard Franklyn Batista made it a 5-0 game.
  • The Yellow Jackets kept buzzing. With 12:31 on the clock, sophomore guard Jalen Jordan pushed the AIC lead to 12-3. The Dolphins made a small push to cut their deficit to six with just over 10 minutes left in the opening frame.
  • AIC went on a 15-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to extend the lead to 21. Leading 32-17 with 3:14 until halftime, Miller hit another jumper to spark an 8-0 run that gave the Yellow Jackets the 40-17 lead at the break
  • In the first nine minutes of the second half, the Yellow Jackets went off on a 15-7 streak and took the 41-point lead at 65-24.
  • With 5:42 remaining in the game, rookie forward Tyrae Washington threw down his most impressive points of the night on a dunk on his way to scoring a game-high 15 points.
  • The Yellow Jackets kept the Dolphins at a safe distance as they took the game 80-46.

THE JOY OF PAINTING:

  • The Yellow Jackets outscored the Dolphins 36-14 in the paint.

IN THE KITCHEN:

  • The Yellow Jackets forced 16 turnovers. The most impressive part is averaged 1.70 points per possession after forcing a turnover. Overall they scored 29 points off turnovers while the Dolphins only scored six points in the same category.
