RIT sneaks past ice hockey

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts -- The American International College ice hockey team fell 3-2 to the Rochester Institute of Technology in Atlantic Hockey Association play on Sunday, November 6.

AIC drops to 5-4-2 overall and 3-3-0-0-0-0 in the AHA with the defeat.

The teams traded goals in the first ten minutes of play. Elijah Gonsalves took advantage of a turnover to get free in front for the game's first goal at 2:23, putting RIT up 1-0.

AIC countered with a stretch pass, as Brett Callahan freed Josh Barnes up the right wing, and Barnes drove to the right faceoff dot before firing a wrister just inside the left post at 5:22 for his second of the year.

The Tigers again used a turnover to take the lead, as Spencer Berry scored an unassisted tally at 8:52 by spinning off the wall with a clearing attempt and firing through a screen.

In the second, AIC tied the game on the power play. Barnes finished a tic-tac-toe passing play at the right side of the net on assists by Jordan Biro and Nicholas Cardelli, tying the game again at 4:23 with his third of the campaign.

RIT notched the final goal of the game, a wrister through by Tanner Andrew at 1:50 that Berry set up after a dump in by Ryan Nicholson.

RIT's Tommy Scarfone made 31 saves to earn the win, while Troy Kobryn stopped 27 shots in the setback.

AIC will next travel west to Canisius College for a two-game AHA series beginning Friday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m.
