Canisius edges past ice hockey

BUFFALO, New York -- The American International College ice hockey team fell 3-2 to Canisius College in Atlantic Hockey Association play on Saturday, November 12.

AIC falls to 5-6-2 with a 3-5-0-0-0-0 AHA record.

Canisius jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:46 in, as Simon Gravel finished a chance from Hudson Lambert.

In the second, AIC tied the game on the power play. Julius Janhonen, Brett Callahan, and Jordan Biro passed the puck around the attacking zone, with Biro walking in from the left side of the slot before wiring home his sixth of the year at 4:35.

Canisius retook the lead midway through the frame. Nick Bowman scored the go-ahead goal at 11:27, also on the power play.

In the third, the Golden Griffins aded to the advantage with an Alton McDermott goal at 8:13.

AIC pulled back within one on the man advantage again. After Callahan made a great effort to keep the puck in at the right point, he dished across to Biro, who went below the goal-line for Dustin Manz. Manz immediately fed the puck back into the slot for a Janhonen one-timer that hit the top right corner for his fourth of the year at 16:21.

AIC pushed late, but could not find the equalizer.

The Yellow Jackets next face the College of the Holy Cross on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:05 p.m. at the MassMutual Center.
