Kramer scores winner as ice hockey beats Army in overtime

WEST POINT, New York - Down a goal in the final six minutes, the American International College ice hockey team rallied to win 2-1 in overtime at Army West Point in Atlantic Hockey Association action on Tuesday, January 17.

AIC improves to 12-9-5 overall and 9-5-2-1-1-0 in AHA play.

The first period was a scoreless affair; Army had the bulk of chances in the early portion of play, including on a power play, and AIC pushed late, ultimately outshooting Army 12-11, but Gavin Abric and Alexandros Aslanidis kept the scoresheet clean.

The second period was much the same; Army had control of the first half, while the Yellow Jackets closed strong and with more shots, but again the net remained empty.

In the third, the Black Knights broke through. On a four-on-four, Army's Lucas Kanta was able to tuck a shot inside the left post at 11:11 for a 1-0 Army lead.

The Yellow Jackets again raised their level of play and it paid off as Alexander Malinowski moved the puck from the midpoint to the left wall for Nicholas Cardelli. Cardelli fired the puck to the right post, where Dustin Manz redirected it into the net at 14:19 for his seventh of the year.

AIC and Army remained 1-1 through the end of regulation, forcing overtime to be played. On the first shift, Julius Janhonen dropped the puck back to the neutral zone for Luis Lindner, who rushed back in and fired the puck toward the net. Brian Kramer, AIC's third skater, drove to the net and directed the puck home for his fourth of the season just 0:38 into the extra session.

Aslanidis made 26 saves to improve to 6-2-1 on the season.

AIC's road trip concludes this weekend at Mercyhurst University with two games; the first will be Friday, January 20 at 7:05 p.m.
