Ice Hockey fires 50 shots, but falls to Robert Morris

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - "If they didn't call it hockey, they'd call it goalie" is a quote often used by coaches, and it rang true for the American International College ice hockey team, which fell 2-0 to Robert Morris University in an Atlantic Hockey Association contest on Friday, January 26 despite a 50-23 shot advantage.

AIC falls to 13-11-1 overall and 9-7-1 in the AHA.

Both teams spent a ton of time in the penalty box in the first two periods, with three major penalties between the squads. The only goal of the first 40 minutes, however, was a Colonials goal that was fired home by Tanner Klimpke at 18:50.

The Colonials extended the lead to 2-0 early in the third; Klimpke worked a wraparound pass to McKay Hayes, who jammed it in just 0:17 into the frame.

The Yellow Jackets dominated the ice, firing 23 shots in the period thereafter. However, as was true with the first 27, Francis Boisvert was up to the task, turning aside every single one. His 50-save shutout was the fourth-most in a shutout win by a goalkeeper in Atlantic Hockey history.

The two teams will battle again on Saturday, January 27 at 1:05 p.m.; AIC will hold its Senior Day ceremony prior to the contest.
