Ice Hockey grabs point in OT loss at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - The American International College ice hockey team fell in overtime, 4-3, to Sacred Heart University in Atlantic Hockey Association play on Saturday, February 3.

AIC is now 14-12-1 overall and 10-8-1-1-1-1 in AHA action.

Both teams scored in the first as Alfred Lindberg picked the pocket of a Pioneers defender in the slot and quickly wristed in his 11th of the season at 8:35, but the lead lasted only 30 seconds before Daniel Ebrahim put back a wild bounce off the boards.

In the second, AIC took the lead on a great offensive shift that featured Lindberg taking a bid and getting to the rebound, which he dished to Julius Janhonen. The senior found his classmate, Brian Kramer, open in the slot, and he dangled past the Pioneers before tucking in his 10th of the season at 13:11.

That lead doubled late in the frame. Dustin Manz won a faceoff on the left side of the zone and Nico Somerville floated a wrister at the net. The changeup fooled the goalkeeper, and went in at 19:12.7 for his second of the season and in as many games.

In the third, however, the Pioneers turned the tables. Mikey Adamson hammered in a power play goal from the point at 4:17, and a two-on-one was finished by Ebrahim at 10:45, tying the game.

Adamson won it in overtime on the first shift, scoring on a breakout at the 0:30 mark.

Nils Wallstrom made 32 saves in the setback.

The teams close the season series on Saturday, February 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the Martire Family Arena on Sacred Heart's campus.
