Men's lacrosse takes comeback win from Caldwell

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The American International College men's lacrosse team overcame a five-goal deficit to defeat Caldwell University 12-10 on Sunday, February 26.

AIC is now 2-1 on the season.

The Cougars pounced early as Owen Healey scored four goals in the first six minutes. Sal Amaral broke the run with a goal at 8:24, but after one, Caldwell led 5-1.

AIC began to climb out of the hole in the second frame, as the teams traded goals. Amaral scored twice, including off of a feed from Jason Vickery, and Rusty Stone fired home a pass from Brian McGowan as well. At the break, the Cougars led 8-4.

Out of halftime, the Cougars threatened to pull away with a man-up goal, but Micaiah Boyle countered just eight seconds later, and that sparked an AIC run. Amaral set up Dylan Seymour, and Stone and Amaral each also scored to get AIC within two at the final quarter stoppage.

In the fourth, the Cougars drew an early penalty, but it was AIC that converted, as Nick Mackay fired a 200-foot pass to Vickery at the top of the goal crease for a man-down goal. McGowan then tied the game at 3:52, and 70 seconds later, Seymour dished t a perfect pass from behind the net to Amaral in front for the go-ahead. The defense clamped down from there, and Seymour found Stone for the game's last tally, giving AIC the 12-10 win.

Hayden Gaudette improved to 2-1 with the win, making seven saves in the contest.

AIC opens Northeast-10 Conference play at Adelphi University on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m.
