Penmen pull away late against men's lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's lacrosse team fought a tight battle with Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, April 8, ultimately falling 16-8.

AIC is now 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the NE10.

The Penmen jumped to a quick 4-0 lead, but AIC scored the final goal of the first quarter as Devon Walker hit the target at 9:09. Jason Vickery then finished a pass from Sal Amaral at 4:28 of the second to cut the deficit to 4-2, although the Penmen scored three before the break to lead 7-2 at halftime.

An early Penmen goal pushed the SNHU lead to six tallies when AIC went on the comeback trail. Micaiah Boyle found Hunter Terlik free for a shot and goal, and Brian McGowan set up Vickery to pare back the Penmen edge. Though the guests netted the next goal, Amaral responded with a highlight-reel tally, and McGowan added another just before the quarter break to get AIC within a 9-6 margin.

Vickery added another early in the fourth, set up by Sean Soper, pulling the Yellow Jackets to within a pair. Unfortunately, the Penmen were able to regroup, and despite one more tally by Dylan Seymour that was set up by a long pass from Nick Mackay, the visiting side held on, and added six goals in the final six minutes for the 16-8 final.

Hayden Gaudette made 19 saves in the setback.

AIC returns to action on Tuesday, April 11 at No. 10 Saint Anselm College.
