SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's soccer team played No. 19 Post University to a 1-1 draw on Thursday, August 31 to open the 2023 season.
Both teams are 0-0-1.
AIC's first goal came early, as the Yellow Jackets drew a foul in the box during a scramble, earning a penalty kick at 11:22. Simba Pelletier was chosen to take the opportunity, and fired it to the right side of the goal for the first official scoring done by any Yellow Jacket in the 2023-24 academic year.
The Eagles showed their mettle, however, and began pushing back after the goal. They fired a significant number of shots, forcing goalkeeper Lucas Morales-Fernandes to come up big repeatedly, which he did on nine different occasions.
With the Yellow Jackets playing with just 10 men after a red card in the second half, the Eagles were able to convert the rebound on a corner at 86:26, with Gentian Selimi ultimately landing the tying strike.
AIC had one more opportunity in the final minute that missed the cage wide, leaving the result a draw.
The Yellow Jackets next host Wilmington University on Saturday, September 2 at 1:00 p.m. The Wildcats played Adelphi University at Abdow Field following the AIC-Post game, winning 2-1.
