Men's Soccer scores early, often in victory at Assumption

WORCESTER, Massachusetts - In the squad's Northeast-10 Conference opener, the American International College men's soccer team set off fireworks, scoring a 6-0 rout of Assumption University on Tuesday, September 19.

AIC is now 1-1-4 on the year and 1-0-0 in the NE10.

The first strike was an excellent play all around, as Gabriele Valerio carried the ball into the right corner of the pitch before firing a cross to the left post. Gabriel Nissen was there to head it back in past the goalkeeper for his first collegiate goal at 7:20.

On AIC's second goal, Christian Torres split the Assumption defense with a through ball from midfield, and Manuel Schwarz was the recipient of the pass. He carried up field before tucking the ball inside the left post at 27:37 for his third of the year.

The Yellow Jackets then put it out of reach before halftime. Ali Taleb put pressure on the Assumption defense and forced a turnover and breakaway. He was able to cross a pass to the netfront, where Simba Pelletier knocked it in at 40:01 for his third of the season.

Just after the one-hour mark, Schwarz struck again, taking a feed from Pelletier and bursting past the defense, pulling the keeper out of position, and launching his second of the game and fourth of the campaign into the net.

AIC tacked on two more in the final minutes of the game. Joao Nunes pulled in a pass at the top of the box and moved past a defender before dishing to Fernando Ramirez at the netfront for his first of the year at 84:48. Then, on the ensuing kickoff, AIC pressed and Assumption lost the ball to Caio Ferreira, who sailed it over the head of the goalkeeper just 10 seconds later for his first of the season.

AIC returns home to open Homecoming 2023 against New Haven on Friday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m.
