Schwarz powers Men's Soccer over New Haven; Morales-Fernandez sets wins record

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's soccer team used a hat trick by Manuel Schwarz to earn a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference win over the University of New Haven on Friday, September 22.

AIC is now 2-1-4 on the season and 2-0-0 in the NE10.

Schwarz's first goal came from the top of the six; he finished a brilliant pass across from Christian Torres, who had made a run up the left side before making the feed. That tally, at 6:24, was his fifth of the season.

In the middle of the period, the Chargers countered. On a cross in by Thomas Oros, David Rosen was on the left post for a header at 32:22 to tie the game.

However, barely two minutes latter, Schwarz charged into the New Haven 18-yard box and was dragged down while trying to make a pass. The referee called a penalty, and Schwarz slotted it low left at 34:44 for his sixth of the campaign.

Not content with back-to-back two-goal games, Schwarz completed the hat trick, flying through the right side of the New Haven defense off of a pass from Gabriel Nissen and landing his NE10-leading seventh of the year at 37:22.

AIC held the Chargers to just two shots on goal in the second half, both saved by Lucas Morales-Fernandez. He picked up the 18th win of his career, setting a new program record to go with his record 12 shutouts. He also holds the program's single-season marks in both categories, set in 2021.

The Yellow Jackets continue NE10 play on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Michael's College.
