Bridgeport strikes late to sneak past men's soccer

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut - The American International College men's soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit but fell 3-2 to the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, September 14.

AIC is now 0-2-1 on the season.

The Purple Knights broke a scoreless tie in the 28th minute, as Enzo Beatrix found Lapo Romeri open for a shot that hit the twine, and less than nine minutes later the hosts doubled the score with a Jakob Reinhard tally, allowing Bridgeport to head into halftime up 2-0.

The Yellow Jackets began the comeback effort in earnest in the second half and broke the shutout at 66:12 as Pietro Botasso finished a chance from Nicholas Chapman. Barely five minutes after that, it was Thomas Lafayette setting up Stefan Sandu, who tied the contest at 71:47.

Now it came down to who hit the net last, and though AIC had chances, it was the hosts who clicked one final time. Beatrix potted the winner with just 1:29 to go in regulation on a pass from John Louis to give the Purple Knights a 3-2 victory.

Justus Wetzel turned back six shots in the defeat; AIC was outshot 9-7 in the matchup despite a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Yellow Jackets will finally get to play on Abdow Field on Saturday, September 21 at 5:00 p.m. as the nightcap of Homecoming against Georgian Court University.
