Lafayette's first career goal helps Men's Soccer tie No. 2 Franklin Pierce

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's soccer team tied a 1-1 Northeast-10 Conference match against No. 2 Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, September 25.

AIC's record is now 0-3-2 and 0-0-1 in the NE10.

In the first half both teams created chances early. Franklin Pierce had the first with a spectacular shot off the left corner kick to a far-right header that was saved by Lucas Morales-Fernandez, while AIC's Cornelius Christensen came up the field shortly after on the right side with a wide shot saved by Franklin Pierce keeper Karl Vernet.

Midway through the half, the Ravens scored as Joao Araujo fired in a corner kick from the left side to Guillermo Avendano, who tapped the ball into the goal at 30:33.

Both teams regrouped during the fifteen-minute halftime and made key adjustments. AIC was able to create more offensive opportunities, and finally Leo Consoloni tapped a ball through the middle to Thomas Lafayette, who scored his first career goal at 73:13, ultimately ensuring the draw.

The Ravens finished off the second half with five shots, for ten shots total in the game, while AIC completed the second half with three shots, and four total for the game.

Vernet made one save, while Morales-Fernandez made three.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, September 28 for their next match. That game is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m.
