Men's Volleyball drops home finale to Sacred Heart

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team fell 18-25, 22-25, 19-25 to Sacred Heart University on Tuesday, March 26.

AIC is now 2-13 overall.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but AIC pushed back with four straight points to tie the set 8-8. The battle was back-and-forth from there, with AIC down 19-17 after a Pedro Panelli kill, but six straight by the Pioneers put it out of reach for AIC and a block sealed the Sacred Heart set win.

In the second, the match continued to be even; the score was tied at 12 different points and AIC rang up 13 kills in the set including five by Robert Santana, but the visitors edged out the hosts, again winning the set on a block to go ahead 2-0.

AIC continued to battle hard in the third, with eight tie scores, but Sacred Heart once again was able to pull away late, finishing off the sweep with the 25-19 score.

AIC collected 34 kills in total, led by 12 from Santana; Panelli scored eight with one error on 13 swings to hit .538, and added four blocks to lead AIC on his senior night.

The team turns its attention back to East Coast Conference play, visiting Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 30 for a noon start.
