Softball drops doubleheaders with SCSU, Bridgeport

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College softball team fell 6-0 and 8-3 to Southern Connecticut State University and 17-5 and 9-3 to the University of Bridgeprt on March 26 and 27, respectively.

AIC drops to 3-17 with a 1-3 Northeast-10 Conference mark after the two series.

Against the Owls, AIC's bats were largely stymied; they were blanked in the first game, which the Owls won thanks in part to a three-run fourth, and a four-run third in game two was the key as AIC scored just one in the second and two in the seventh. Kodi Gora and Abigail Wells each had three hits across the two games to lead AIC.

Against Bridgeport, the first game was a high-scoring affair as both teams put up crooked numbers in the first; AIC countered a four-run opening with three of its own including a Wells RBI triple, a Victoria Andrade RBI single, and a sacrifice fly by Alexis Jimenez. However, Bridgeport pushed nine across the following frame, ultimately winning 17-5 in five innings, with Wells and Gora having an RBI hit in the fourth and fifth respectively for AIC's total.

In the finale, AIC struck first, as Jimenez laid a perfect bunt up the third base line and Andrade came home on it, and Gora hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Taylor Murphy, but the Purple Knights scored six in the next inning and ultimately won 9-3.

AIC heads to Queens College to take on the Knights for two on Thursday, March 30.
