Softball loses two close battles with Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vermont - The American International College softball team was swept in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, 2-1 and 7-5 in nine innings, on Friday, April 28, to close out the 2023 season.

AIC ends the season 7-39 overall with a 3-21 NE10 record.

In the opener, AIC loaded the bases and was able to score a run in the first as Kodi Gora hit a sacrifice fly. However, the Purple Knights tied the game in the fourth and scored again in the fifth to gain a 2-1 lead, which held as the final.

The second game started in Saint Michael's favor with a three-run third. That lead held until the final inning of regulation, when back-to-back hits by Brianna Harzula and Samantha Sanchez, along with an error, loaded the bases. Abigail Wells smacked a two-run double, and Alexis Jimenez singled to tie the game.

Both teams scored once in the eighth, wit AIC's run coming on a Sanchez double. In the ninth, AIC pushed a run across without a hit as two walks and two hit batters combined for four bases. The Purple Knights then came to the dish, and ended the game with a three-run walk-off home run to win 7-5.
