Cividanes goes deep in extras to lead Softball to split at Post

WATERBURY, Connecticut - Rookie Brooklyn Cividanes rocked a two-run shot in the eighth inning to help AIC split with Post University, 5-3 and 4-12 on Friday, March 22.

AIC is now 6-6 on the season.

In game one, the Eagles scored first with a walk, sacrifice bunt, and single. In the third, AIC bounced back as Julia Krijgsman and Brianna Harzula had back-to-back hits, with a fly ball advancing Krijgsman before Harzula swiped second. Abigail Wells hit a fly to center that scored Krijgsman, and a ball to third by McGrath was mishandled, scoring Harzula. However, the Eagles scored in the bottom half on a double steal to tie the game.

In the fifth, Wells and McGrath hit back-to-back one-out singles, advancing to second on third on throws in the process. That allowed Taylor Murphy to hit a deep fly and bring in Wells. Once again, the Eagles answered, notching a run with two walks and a single in the sixth.

With the game going to extras, the Yellow Jackets started with Kodi Gora on second. A sacrifice bunt moved her to third, setting up Cividanes. She did more than merely give AIC a lead, smashing a two-run shot to put AIC up a pair.

The Eagles had their chance with a runner at second, but could not get the ball out of the infield against reliever Kaitlyn Boone, who forced three straight groundouts to shut the door and earn the win.

AIC led early in the second game, as McGrath and Samantha Sanchez drove in first-inning runs and Gora notched a third-frame RBI, but the Eagles offense arrived big, tying the game in both instances before ultimately scoring four in the third, three in the fourth, and three in the sixth for the 12-4 final.

AIC visits Southern New Hampshire University on Monday, March 25 for a nonconference doubleheader against a fellow Northeast-10 Conference team beginning at 2:00 p.m.
