Panthers pitch past Softball

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College softball team fell 8-2 and 10-2 to Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 7.

AIC is now 9-11 overall and 3-5 in the NE10.

Reigning NFCA Pitcher of the Year Lindsey Hibbs was masterful across her first six innings of work for the Panthers. She ultimately went the distance and struck out 13 as her team built up an 8-0 lead for her, scoring four of those runs in the top of the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets finally got to her in the final inning, as Kodi Gora and Brooklyn Cividanes both singled to put two on with one out. Julia Krijgsman then doubled into the left-center gap, scoring Gora, and Brianna Harzula hit a bouncer that was just out of the reach of Hibbs to push Cividanes home for AIC's two runs.

AIC hoped to have the momentum into game two, but the Panthers scored three times in the top of the first. Abigail Wells led off AIC's half with a double and scored on Gora's single, only to have Adelphi notch two more in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth for a 10-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jilien Ayala led off with an infield single, beating the throw from second, and then advanced on a groundout before Destiny McGrath's base hit up the middle allowed her to come home, but the Yellow Jackets hit into a 4-6-3 double play, ending the game by run rule as the Panthers led by eight runs after five frames.

The Yellow Jackets visit The College of Saint Rose for a pair of NE10 games on Tuesday, April 9 beginning at noon.
