Trio of Yellow Jackets scored double digits in women's basketball loss to Post

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball played its final game of the 2021 calendar on Thursday, December 30 as the team hosted Post University. The Eagles outscored the Yellow Jackets by 10 in the third quarter as they took the game 72-68.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Yellow Jackets started the game on a 5-0 run with a layup and three-pointer from graduate Destine Perry. Knotted at 11, with under two minutes left sophomore AJ Washington hit a layup before Perry hit another triple to give AIC the 16-11 lead after a quarter.
• The Eagles took their first lead of the game with 3:17 on the clock in the second quarter on a three by Amaya Santiago to go up 29-28. Almost a minute later, junior Kyla Smith found the bottom of the net on a jumper followed by a three by junior Rosa Vreugd. Perry rounded out the first-half scoring with a pair of free throws to give AIC the 35-29 advantage at the break.
• Post outscored the Yellow Jackets 24-14 in the third, which gave the Eagles the 53-49 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
• The Eagles had an 11-point lead, their largest of the night, with 4:56 remaining. The Yellow Jackets started to chip away and made it a six-point game with 2:15 on the clock. Trailing 67-62 and with 30 seconds remaining Smith hit a jumper to make it a three-point game. That was as close as the Yellow Jackets got, as the Eagles took the game 72-68.
