HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • AIC came out buzzing in the first quarter. Rookie Nora Young started the scoring with a layup. After getting a stop on the other end, graduate Destine Perry hit a triple followed by a pair of free throws by Young to make it 7-0. The Yellow Jacket defense held the Greyhounds scoreless for the first 3:13 of the game. After 10 minutes of play, AIC led 15-11.
  • Assumption flipped the script in the second frame as the hosts took an 18-17 lead two and a half minutes in as they capped off a 7-1 run. At the break, the Greyhounds led 27-21.
  • The teams went back and forth in the third quarter but the Greyhounds outscored AIC 17-15 to take the 44-36 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • Young started to help the Yellow Jackets chip away at their deficit with an old-school three-point play. The Greyhounds hit a pair at the line before back-to-back baskets by graduate Nyrie Holliman and junior Rosa Vreugd to make it a 46-43 game.
  • With 6:49 remaining Perry stepped to the line and knocked a pair down to bring the Yellow Jackets within one. Under six minutes remained when Young was fouled and knocked down two at the charity stripe and gave AIC its first lead since the first quarter.
  • Assumption trailed 54-50 with 72 seconds left when they hit two freebies and made it a one-possession game. Young kept her aggression going as she drew a foul with 51 seconds on the clock and nailed both shots.
  • In the final 36 seconds, the Yellow Jackets went three-of-four from the line as they only allowed two points to take the game 59-54.
