Karlee Ziliak: 12 points

AIC:

Destine Perry: Nine points, four rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The teams opened up with an offensive outburst, as the first five possessions resulted in baskets; Destine Perry hit shots for AIC's first four points. The pace slowed a bit after that, with Nora Young landing three shots for AIC but the Penmen advancing their lead to as much as seven before ultimately ending the quarter ahead 20-15.
  • After SNHU opened the second with a jumper, Tia-Marie Martinez answered with a three less than a minute into the frame. However, the Penmen retaliated with a three from Jenna Roche to start an eight-point run over 53 seconds, and AIC did not score again until AJ Washington and Young made baskets on back-to-back possessions nearly three minutes later. Karlee Ziliak's deep shot with 1:54 to go in the half was the last score for either side, allowing the Penmen to take a 36-24 lead into the break.
  • SNHU showed no signs of slowing out of the stoppage, scoring five more points in the first 49 seconds of the third, and by the 3:04 mark of the period had built to a 49-29 advantage. AIC did chip away later in the frame, with an old-school three and two other free throws by Young to bring AIC within 13, and Kayla Robinson added five of her own in the final 1:04 to leave AIC still trailing by a dozen, 58-46, at the end of the third.
  • It took both teams over three minutes in the final frame to score a field goal, and an 8-0 run by AIC over 2:14 brought the Yellow Jackets within eight with 3:36 to play, as four different players hit shots for the home team. However, AIC could get no closer, ultimately falling by the 69-56 final.
