SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team outscored the Panthers in all four quarters as graduate Destine Perry posted 24 points and the Yellow Jackets beat Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Thursday, February 3, by a score of 71-56.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Panthers started on a 7-0 run in the first 2:20. Sophomore Julia Carbonell Munoz drained a jumper off a pass from graduate Destine Perry to break the shutout.
  • Trailing 14-3, the Yellow Jackets went on a 20-3 run over the last five minutes of the first. During that time Perry scored 12 points, while graduate Sara Guntin Barreiro had four, junior Kyla Smith had two,and sophomore Kayla Robinson and graduate Charee Osborne each had one. After 10 minutes of play, AIC led 22-17.
  • AIC continued the run in the second quarter on a Robinson jumper. Ty'zhea Hawkins ended the run with a three to cut the Adelphi deficit to four at 24-20.
  • Adelphi and AIC seemed evenly matched in the second stanza. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Panthers by two and led at the break, 39-32.
  • The two teams battled in the third as the Yellow Jackets outscored the Panthers by two in the third and led 53-44 with 10 minutes to play.
  • Adelphi opened the final frame with an 8-1 run in the first 3:19 to make it a 54-52 game.
  • AIC answered with a 10-0 run of its own over the next three minutes. Perry hit a three with 3:24 on the clock that forced a timeout by the Panthers.
  • The Yellow Jackets held Adelphi scoreless in the last 1:45 as the Yellow Jackets went six-for-six at the line to seal the game.
