HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Skyhawks took a 16-2 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • Graduate Charee Osborn doubled the Yellow Jackets' score with a nice jumper from the right side to start the second quarter. Sophomore Kayla Robinson hit a pair off freebees a minute later. On the next AIC possession graduate Sara Guntin Barreiro hit a turnaround jumper to give AIC eight points. At the break Stonehill led 30-12.
  • AIC started to heat up in the third quarter. Osborne hit a fadeaway 16 seconds in. Robinson stole the ball on the other end and passed it to senior Zoe Willis who ran ahead to lay it in. Freshman Julia Carbonell Munoz had a steal on the next Stonehill possession and graduate Destine Perry hit nothing but nylon from deep to give AIC the 7-0 run and force a Skyahwks timeout. After three periods Stonehill held the 45-29 advantage.
  • As the game continued the Yellow Jackets found ways to score. Perry started the fourth with a pair at the line on the first AIC possession. Willis swished a three from the left wing to continue the scoring. After a stop on the other end, Perry took a pass from classmate Nyrie Holliman that went through the net from deep. After the basket the Skyhawks took some time to talk things over as their 18-point led was cut down to eight at 45-37.
  • Trailing 51-41, the Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 run over the next 3:16 and cut their deficit down to just a pair. Stonehill hit a three with 36.3 seconds left to extend their lead to 54-49. A missed shot and a turnover by AIC allowed the Skyhawks to go to the line and seal the game with a 60-51 final.
