Owls fly past women's basketball

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – The American International College women's basketball team fell 58-46 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, December 31.

AIC is now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the NE10.

Taylor Tomlinson made the game's first basket, and though the score quickly rose to 4-4 after a pair of Kayla Robinson free throws, the offenses stagnated; 4:10 went by before AIC hit another basket, another Tomlinson jumper. However, the Owls outscored the Yellow Jackets 9-1 down the stretch to lead 13-7 after one.

Southern Connecticut extended to lead to 20-10 early in the second quarter, but AIC battled back, closing to within 23-20 after a Tia-Marie Martinez triple. The Owls went on another run down the stretch of the frame, and led 29-22 thanks to a buzzer beater jumper.

AIC could not get back in the second half; though the Yellow Jackets trailed by five through three, the Owls held the Yellow Jackets at bay, ultimately winning by a 58-46 final.

Martinez led AIC's scorers with 14 points, while Julia Carbonell Munoz pulled in 10 rebounds. Robinson notched 12 points and four swipes.

AIC opens the new year at home on January 4 at 5:30 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University.
