Women's basketball falls to Bentley in regular season finale

WALTHAM, Massachusetts - A late-first half surge pushed Bentley University past the American International College women's basketball team, 72-51, in the regular season and Northeast-10 Conference finale for both teams.

AIC falls to 15-13 and ends the NE10 campaign with a record of 11-9.

Though the Falcons started the game on a 5-0 run, AIC countered quickly as Taylor Tomlinson hit three straight buckets and Julia Carbonell-Munoz followed with one of her own. Tia-Marie Martinez then knocked down a triple before Tomlinson and Nora Young scored, giving the Yellow Jackets a 15-0 run and a 15-5 lead. Bentley broke the streak with a pair of free throws, but Martinez drained another long shot for an 18-7 edge. However, Bentley closed the frame on a 7-0 run, leaving AIC up just four at the break.

The Falcons took over from there. They put up 25 in the second frame alone, and while Martinez shot 4-of-5 in the period, the home side had a 39-28 lead at halftime. From there, the Falcons closed by shooting 15-of-27 in the second half to take the win.

Tomlinson notched a team-best 20 points and eight boards, while Martinez scored 14 total points. Carbonell-Munoz pulled down seven rebounds and handed out three assists.

AIC returns home on Friday, February 24 at 5:00 p.m. for the opening round of the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament, and as the sixth seed will host The College of Saint Rose. Tickets are available by visiting www.aictix.com
