Women's Basketball battles hard in loss at No. 11 Bentley

WALTHAM, Massachusetts - The game was closer than the score indicated as the American International College women's basketball team fell 67-50 to No. 11 Bentley University on Wednesday, January 24 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

AIC is now 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the NE10.

The game started strong for the Yellow Jackets as both Kayla Robinson and Briana Lee knocked down threes to stake AIC to a 6-0 lead. However, the Falcons rallied to close the gap, tying the game at 11-11 late in the frame. Robinson scored two more layups in the final minute, however, giving AIC a 17-13 edge after one.

The Falcons roared back in the second, scoring eight straight early to take a four-point advantage before Robinson snapped the run. The Yellow Jackets slowed the Falcons from there, and thanks to a late shot by Rhaymi Porter, trailed just 25-23 after 20 minutes.

The game remained close in the third as the teams traded baskets, although the Falcons ultimately held a seven-point advantage after the half-hour mark thanks to a late flurry.

AIC came out with fire defensively in the first four minutes of the final frame, shutting down the Falcons offense, and a three by Ruzgar Christina Boyle pulled AIC within two with just over six minutes to play, forcing a home timeout. Bentley made the necessary adjustments in the stoppage, keeping AIC from tying the game. The Yellow Jackets were forced to foul late to try to extend the game, resulting in the final margin.

Robinson tied for a game high with 18 points, while Porter impressed with 10 rebounds and six blocks.

AIC returns to action at home on Saturday, January 27 at 1:30 p.m. against Adelphi.
