Mikolyuk nets 100th career point for women's lacrosse in loss at SNHU

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - A six-point day for Antonella Mikolyuk included her 100th career collegiate point, but the American International College women's lacrosse team fell 26-11 to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, April 20.

AIC is now 1-8 overall and 0-8 in the NE10.

Although the Penmen scored the game's first two goals in the opening 28 seconds, AIC was not deterred and battled back to take the lead with a three-goal run. Jordan Galgay started it on a feed from Mikolyuk, then Kathryn Moody scored twice, once unassisted with a man-advantage and one from Mikolyuk to put AIC ahead.

The goals kept coming quickly for both teams; two more strikes for the hosts hit the net before the five-minute mark, and Drew Orzechowski scored up a player from Moody to tie it again. The Penmen notched the next two, and then AIC struck back again with another Mikolyuk-to-Moody marker for the grad student to net a hat trick just 8:07 into the contest. After a Penmen tally, Walz scored on a free position right after a card to bring AIC within 7-6.

Unfortunately for AIC, the Penmen took over from there. The hosts scored five times in the final 2:12 of the first, and then outscored AIC 9-1 in the second, with only a Gabrielle Walz goal from Nicole Gamberoni breaking up the run. They also held AIC scoreless while tallying five in the third.

In the final frame, AIC did all of the scoring. Mikolyuk struck three times, with a nifty feed from Walz setting up her second goal at 12:35 that was the milestone 100th point. Caroline Colton also scored a goal in the period.

On top of the six points, Mikolyuk won 10 draw controls.

AIC returns to action Wednesday, April 24 for a 7:00 p.m. opening draw at Franklin Pierce University.
