Wrestling takes third at City Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College wrestling team finished third at the City Championship, held at the Butova Gymnasium, on Saturday, November 11, defeating STCC 27-24 before falling to Springfield 48-3 and Western New England 40-5.

Against the Rams, Aaron Morocho got off to a quick start in the 133-pound bout with a pin at 1:40, and Joe Aldrich followed that up at 141 by winning a 7-3 decision. Alfred MacNeill also pinned his opponent 2:54 into the 165-pound match, and Jack MacKiernan followed at 174 with a technical fall win, 18-3, at 6:39. Markys Lissaint won his bout at 184 by decision, 4-2. It all set up for the heavyweight tilt to decide the match, and Hayden Gaudette came through, winning a 17-6 major decision that scored AIC the four points it needed to come out on top, 27-24.

Lissaint earned AIC's win against Springfield, using a strong third period to take an 8-4 decision, while MacKiernan scored another technical fall against the Golden Bears, winning 21-5 in 4:26.

Springfield, which defeated Western New England and STCC as well, won the tournament. 

AIC next heads to Millersville for the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Invitational on Saturday, November 18.
