Wrestling defeats Norwich in dual meet

NORTHFIELD, Vermont - The American International College wrestling team defeated Norwich University 31-20 in a dual meet on Friday, February 2.

Liam Pritchard Holland and Joseph Aldrich took forfeits at 125 and 133 to start AIC off ahead 12-0. Aaron Morocho then faced James Hoyt in the 141-pound bout, winning with a 20-4 technical fall at 5:33; Morocho landed four second-period takedowns before a reversal and takedown in the third ended it.

Luke Mangiafico then won his battle with Greyson Merola at 149; he took a lead with three first-period takedowns and never relinquished it in a 14-8 decision. Kyrie Williams followed at 157, scoring two takedowns in each of the three periods to earn an 18-3 technical fall at 5:39.

Alfred MacNeill notched a first-period takedown, but ultimately dropped a 6-3 decision at 165, but AIC quickly bounced back as Jack MacKiernan continued his winning ways at 174, scoring a quick takedown and four-point nearfall before putting James Spellman to the mat at 0:59 for the pin and six points.

Norwich won the 184, 197, and heavyweight bouts, but AIC claimed the overall victory.

AIC continues the season on Friday, February 9 at the Trinity Duals in Hartford, Connecticut.
