Women's Rugby crushes Division I Princeton

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – Looking to build on a dominant showing in its first win of the season, the American International College women's rugby team reigned supreme, defeating NIRA Division I opposition in Princeton University 46-14 at Ronald J. Abdow Field on Sunday, October 1.

The win moves AIC to 2-1 on the season.

SaTya Miller scored a try early in the contest to give AIC the lead, and the conversion by Venise Sanft put the Yellow Jackets ahead 7-0. The game bogged down from there until the midpoint of the period, when Louisa Justice broke through for another try.

Things turned further in AIC's favor thanks to a yellow card for a high tackle; Zahira Roldan took advantage to put in a third try, with Ro'Elenoa Lagilagi converting for a 19-0 halftime lead.

Out of the break, AIC put the game away; Tayle-Earvin Atuaia and Ivana Kiripati each scored before the card expired to put AIC ahead 29-0. Sanft and Kiripati added tries to push the lead to 39 by the 55-minute mark.

Princeton broke the shutout with two tries in the final twenty minutes, as Amelia Clarke and Malinka Kwemo scored; Kwemo made both conversions as well. However, Morgan Schechter also put in a try with Camryn Henderson converting, leading to the 46-14 final.

The Yellow Jackets return to NIRA Division II action on Saturday, October 14 at West Chester University. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
