Women's Soccer battles hard in NE10 Quarterfinal loss at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College women's soccer team's season came to an end in the Northeast-10 Championship Quartefinal, as the seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets fell 1-0 to second-seeded Adelphi University on Sunday, November 5.

AIC ends the 2023 campaign at 7-7-2.

The Panthers put pressure on the Yellow Jackets all through the first half, and broke through late on a cross from right to left from Julianna Violi to Alexis Hellman. Hellman's shot from just above the 18-yard box sailed just underneath the crossbar for a 1-0 Adelphi lead.

The Yellow Jackets battled hard in the second half, and generated several chances, including a bid by Natasha Ferreira that went high and a few looks by Gabrielle Williams and Charlotte Bernard that were turned back. However, the Panthers were able to mostly confine the AIC offense, and hang on for the win.

Sara Avery made the start in goal, stopping three shots in the season finale.
