Late strike pushes Women's Soccer past New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - The American International College women's soccer team controlled the field for most of the game but needed a late goal to win 1-0 over the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Saturday, October 5.

AIC is now 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NE10.

The Yellow Jackets spent much of the first half in the New Haven defensive end of the field, drawing seven corner kicks and outshooting the Chargers 9-2, but five saves by Caitlin Daly kept AIC off the board.

In the second, with time winding down, the Yellow Jackets finally clicked to score a corner. Katelyn Oliveira's service in from the right corner eluded Daly, and in the bevy of players in front of the cage, Nicole Kelly kicked the ball up and under the crossbar for her second of the year at 81:52, the game's lone tally.

Tia Kelk garnered a shutout, saving four shots in the win.

AIC continues NE10 play on Wednesday, October 9 when the Yellow Jackets return to the Elm City to face Southern Connecticut State University.
