Women's Tennis knocks off Assumption

WORCESTER, Massachusetts - The American International College women's tennis team defeated Assumption University 4-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Wednesday, April 5.

In doubles, AIC's top pair of Natalija Vlacic and Victoria Azcona were able to earn a 6-2 win over Cara McCormack and Aimee Figgins. Maria Cedeno and Charlotte Tvelia then won second doubles against Caitlin Sze and Elizabeth McGeer 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Yellow Jackets.

All four singles matches went three sets. At first singles, Vlacic overcame a 6-4 first-set loss to take the second 6-1 and the third 6-3. Azcona lost the first set as well, in a 7-6 tiebreaker, to McCormack, but bounced back and won the second 6-3 before cruising to a 6-1 third-set win. Cedeno took the first set 7-5, but fell 6-0 and 6-1 in the second and third sets. Tvelia rounded out the lineup at fourth singles, and after dropping the opener to McGeer 6-4, won the final two sets by the same score to secure AIC's fourth point of the match.
