Triathlon opens season at Waterman's in Maryland

ROCK HALL, Maryland - The American International College triathlon team competed at the Waterman's Triathlon in Rock Hall, Maryland, finishing fifth of six collegiate teams that were in the race.

AIC's contingent was led by Lillian Kaempfe. The newest member of the squad came across the line at 1:23:23 thanks in large part to an outstanding performance in the run portion of the race. She ran the five kilometers in 22:23, the ninth-fastest time in the final leg of the race and the top time among Division II competitors.

The team also had a strong showing from captain Allie Drexler, who finished just behind Kaempfe in 1:25:58, and Angelina Knowlton, who clocked in at 1:26:32.

"We're all really excited and looking forward to the East Regionals event on October 15th," said Head Coach Matthew Mohnacky after the race, adding "The Yellow Jackets did an awesome job placing fifth overall today; they're ready for a top performance against the East!"

The team has its sights set on the USA Triathlon East Regional Qualifier, held at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia. The race is scheduled for Sunday, October 15.
