Women's Volleyball sinks Setters in straight sets

PLEASANTVILLE, New York - The American International College women's volleyball team took down Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University in a sweep, 25-18, 25-19, 25-14, on Tuesday, September 26.

AIC is now 7-6 with a 2-0 NE10 mark.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the opening set, with five points coming on errors by the Setters. Shortly after, Kristina Peric aced three straight serves, giving the Yellow Jackets a significant advantage that they never relinquished as they ultimately grabbed the 1-0 edge.

Aleksandra Ivanovic started AIC out in the second with a pair of kills, and then the Yellow Jackets roared ahead with six in a row and eight of nine points to take a 15-8 lead. The stretch included a block and a kill by Alice Di Francesco. Amber Williams helped close the set out with a trio of kills.

With the pressure on, AIC capitalized on mistakes again, taking a 7-1 lead in the third and never looking back; AIC generated match point with a Victoria Soto Burgos kill, and then Perla Rosa ended the contest with an ace.

AIC held the Setters to hitting just .047; the Yellow Jackets aced nine serves and collected eight blocks in the match. Paola Soto Burgos scored a team-best eight kills, while Ivanovic had seven and six blocks. Rosa led AIC with 15 digs, and Di Francesco dished 28 assists.

The Yellow Jackets visit Adelphi University on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. for their next contest.
