Women's Volleyball wins at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut - The American International College women's volleyball team avenged an earlier defeat, taking down the University of Bridgeport 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21 on Tuesday, October 17.

AIC is now 10-7 on the season.

Bridgeport's offense was nearly perfect in the first, with 11 kills and no errors on 19 swings. However, AIC was able to hit more frequently, and collected 18 kills, including Dora Butkovic's set-point shot, to take the opening stanza.

In the second, the set was close through 18-17, but a series of errors by the Purple Knights pushed AIC to a four-point advantage and the Yellow Jackets held on for the 2-0 lead after Amber Williams drove set point to the floor.

A big mid-set run gave the hosts the third, and some hope, but AIC snuffed that out by dominating in the fourth, with a pair of four-point runs key to the win. Setter Alice Di Francesco had the final kill of the match, sealing the victory.

Aleksandra Ivanovic racked up 20 kills, while Paola Soto Burgos had 13, Williams landed 12, and Butkovic 10; Ivanovic also made six blocks. Di Francesco dished 37 assists and made 11 digs.

The Yellow Jackets continue their revenge tour against another familiar foe in Bentley University on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m.
