Women's Volleyball guts out victory at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, New Hampshire - The American International College women's volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit to defeat Franklin Pierce University in a five-set Northeast-10 Conference thriller, winning 25-17, 14-25, 18-25, 25-21, 15-13 on Tuesday, October 31.

AIC is now 14-8 with a 7-2 NE10 mark.

The Yellow Jackets cruised to a first-set win with a .414 attack percentage and led from the outset thanks to three early kills by Aleksandra Ivanovic. Perla Rosa sparked another four-point run with a pair of aces, and Paola Soto-Burgos finished it off with a block to give AIC a 1-0 lead.

However, the next two sets were a struggle. The Ravens were able to frequently block AIC attacks, and the offensive output for AIC dropped significantly as a result. In a blink, the Ravens had taken the second and third sets and threatened to upend the two-time defending champions.

AIC steeled itself for the fourth set, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit with three more Ivanovic swats, and took advantage of some miscues to put together a five-point run and lead 17-13. The Yellow Jackets held off the hosts from there to force a decisive fifth set.

The fifth was a back-and-forth battle mirroring the first four, and all the way to 13-13 it was unclear who would come out on top. However, as she has all season, Ivanovic was there to make it happen, firing a kill off the Ravens' blockers from an Alice Di Francesco set and then acing the match point serve to finish AIC's escape from the Ravens.
