WORCESTER, Massachusetts - The American International College field hockey team was defeated 2-0 by No. 7 Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, October 9.
AIC is now 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the NE10.
The Greyhounds generated a high amount of pressure, putting seven shots on target and generating six corners, and Mia Salah broke through for a goal at 10:00 on a pass from Julia Carbone.
AIC was able to slow Assumption somewhat in the second, but Salah was able to feed Elle Murray for a chance that squeaked in at 7:32 of the frame.
Assumption held AIC off from there, despite some early third-quarter chances for the Yellow Jackets that were turned back by Paige Gillette, and held on for the 2-0 win.
Frederique den Hartog was brilliant in the cage despite the setback, saving 13 shots. Morgan Martellio added a defensive save.
AIC returns to Ronald J. Abdow Field for a rare 8:00 p.m. start in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, October 12 against Molloy University.
